YABBA Voting

Students, Parents, Teachers and Librarians...

Please read the information below to become familiarised with the procedures
and to find out if a favourite book fits the YABBA guidelines.

VOTING ENQUIRY HOTLINE: (03) 9889 7749

YABBA would like to encourage you to have the maximum number of students vote. Students may vote in each of the sections.
  • Picture Story Book
  • Fiction for Younger Readers
  • Fiction for Older Readers
  • Fiction for Years 7-9

The short listed books are nominated earlier in the year, however, students may vote for other titles that meet the guidelines (see below).

If the title isn't short listed, but meets the guidelines it is still eligible for voting. Don't worry if you are unsure whether the book title fits into a particular section, simply record the information on the tally sheet.

You can download Ballot papers for voting from this page (see below).

Voting closes on Universal Children's Day in October each year.

GUIDELINES

  1. Any child from Prep to Year 9 may vote.
  2. Books eligible for voting (must meet these criteria )
  3. The book voted for must be the child's free choice.

    PROCEDURES

    1. Obtain votes
If you need Ballot Sheets you can download the Ballot mastercopy, ( which is part of the VOTING GUIDE ) for photocopying and cutting apart the number of ballots you need. Some of the following you may have already discussed with your students, however, it is probably good to review it prior to their voting.

      • Show students how to verify that their book choice meets the guidelines.
        1. Is it an Australian book?
        2. Is it already a winner?
      • Explain to children how to vote. Clarify that it is a free vote, their own personal choice.
      • Students fill out Ballot ( help for writing is allowed, but the vote must be freely theirs! )
      • Students to fold their own ballot paper, to preserve secrecy.
      • Any box may be used as a ballot box.
      • Votes must be certified by school stamp or signature

    2. Tally votes
You are encouraged to sort votes prior to despatch and record results on the official VOTE TALLY SHEET ( included in the VOTING GUIDE ). If you find your students are voting for titles other than those on the shortlist, you will need to create a Tally Sheet for these books and write in these additional titles,

      Please ensure that the form:

      • indicates the number of votes for each title
      • has your school details
      • provides name of the school contact

    3. Return voting results to YABBA by the prescribed date
(see the YABBA Timeline for the latest details).

      Send votes to:
