Martin obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts, VCA in 2001. He has been involved
in a number of group exhibitions including Leisureland,
Red Gallery (2003), We are Australia,
touring (2002), and Work from the stables,
69 Smith Street (2000). Martin also held a solo exhibition at 45 Downstairs
in 2003. His current work investigates the cult of the ute (utility truck)
and Australia as a car culture. Martin is fascinated by the specific aesthetics
of hot rod culture: "Objects have become iconic symbols of lifestyle
and sense of belonging, in turn becoming objects of desire". The
materials Martin uses reflect the mass-produced nature of cars and he
is interested in art projects that engage him with young people. |
