Maggie McCormick’s art is a personal cartography that engages the viewer in a dialogue with the artist around changing concepts of cultural identity in a global world. Her photo/text installations have been exhibited in Australia, Europe and most recently in P.R.China, in both public space and gallery space.

McCormick is a founding member of the artist initiative urbanart, which has a focus on urban space and the relationship of contemporary art and ideas to cultural identity within that space. As an artist/curator McCormick has initiated, curated and participated in both Melbourne based and international urbanart projects. The most recent urbanart project was melbourneconnectionasia 2003/2004, linking 40 artists and art spaces from 8 cities in the Asian region. Her curatorial work is often in collaboration with artist Claudia-Maria Luenig in Vienna, on projects such as Global Fusion 2002 and currently, Global Fusion Close Up 2005-2006.

In 2004 she graduated from RMIT University, Melbourne with a Master of Fine Arts and lectures at Site: International Unit for Public Art at RMIT University. She has presented papers and published in journals and on line on global art/space issues. In 2005 she commences a PhD at the Faculty of Architecture at The University of Melbourne.
