STUDENT EXCHANGE

The first exchange student hosted by the club was Ellen Russin who arrived from U.S.A. in 1963.
Our first outbound student was Kaye Trembath who travelled to Wewoka, Oklahoma, U.S.A in 1964.
In July 1999, 35 years later, the following message was posted on our Guestbook by Kaye.

Stories of some former exchange students at the time of their exchange

INBOUND STUDENT 1998 : Hanna Hoglund Arrives.

The 1998 student exchange is under way, with the arrival in Sale of Swedish Exchange Student, Hanna Hoglund.
Hanna hails from Mjolby, in central Sweden, and is the 17 year old daughter of a jeweller and a director of Ericsson Ltd.
Hanna lists on her application that she is studying English, German and Spanish and has aspirations of becoming a politician when she graduates from University.
This year, Rotary Student Exchange in Sale is being hosted jointly by the Sale and Sale Central Rotary Clubs, with both clubs being responsible for Hanna's accommodation and wellbeing whilst in Australia.
Hanna is a vegetarian, and plays floorball and admits to being a little aprehensive about public speaking.

OUTBOUND STUDENT 1998/99 : Aaron Richard Selected.


The 1998/99 outbound student for both Sale and Sale Central Rotary Clubs is Aaron Richard, pronounced "Ree-shard" who at age sixteen and lives on small farm at Munro with his parents Bev and Vic Richard.
Aaron attends Sale College in year 12, speaks fluent German and has previously lived in Malaysia and New Zealand. He is a skilled pianist, and regularly competes in eisteddfods and other competitions, as well as playing in the school and local brass bands.
He plays hockey for Sale Hockey Club seniors.
Aaron is looking forward to living in Germany for a year to help him determine his direction in life, as he is still a little undecided re his future career.
He is particularly looking forward to experiencing European culture, customs, music and the political change process in Europe, including the introduction of the new Euro currency.
Aaron will leave for Europe in January, 1999 and when he returns may do an Arts/Science course at Monash Uni.
