Melbourne Leather Pride Association
Leather is largely a euphemism. In different communities it can mean anything
from leather fetishism to cross-dressing, from the guys who just like rough sex to the
fashion mavens who flock to gatherings like Dressing for Pleasure to check out the latest
erotic wear, to SM, which is also known as Sadomasochism, Sadism & Masochism, et al.
Leather as a style owes a great debt to the gay male community, where chaps, motorcycle
caps, Sam Browne belts, and engineer boots became totems of sexual potency. Now the
leather name and a great deal of the "look" is applied to people of all genders
and sexual orientations.

M.L.P.A(Inc) is a truely pansexual social support group for people
interested in B&D S/M, Fetish & all aspects of the "leather" lifestyle.
We wish to promote understanding, health, safety & fun!
Since 1993 we have organised Leather Pride Week, a week of events ranging
from formal dining in leather, fetish art shows, visual arts exhibitions, movie nights,
through to a "leather" dance party. Leather Pride Week for 1999 is around

run from Sunday 17th October through to Monday 31st October. So, if there are any artists,
performers, volunteers, or people who think they can do it better, then we want to
hear from you! Our new event for this year is the "mail art show". We have had
artists send in their works from the kinky corners of the world and they will be displayed
for one afternoon only!

M.L.P.A has a standing policy of opening our events to anyone who is
interested in attending. To this end we do not impose dress codes, and endeavour to make
the majority of our events non-gender-specific.
