SEEDLESS MIX - Self Titled

Review by Penny
The only down side to Seedless Mix's demo is that it isn't available for sale yet (Ed's Note - It probably is now, though.....); however I did manage to score a (slightly bodgie) copy from the boys. but the three piece's fat'n heavy style shines through the murky recording, showing the band have created an original and refreshing sound. While the raw vocals and distorted guitars are cool and in yer face, I also found the 'Mix's mellower side, featured on Ping and sections of Ed, a definite highlight. Song Title of the Year award would have to go to the last track on this four song demo, Get the Fuck out of my Face or I'll Kick the Shit out of You. This bands has loads of potential and haven't spoiled their raw live sound with over-dubs and the like. Seedless Mix rock, they roll, and most importantly, they go orff!

DROOL - Viking Metal

Review by MOP
This demo is hardcore, powerful and in your face. It is perfectly suited to it's title. Unfortunately, when this demo arrived there was no bio and no song listing, so I can't tell you much about the band. What I can say is that all three songs are full of grinding guitars, one powerful rythm section and often pain-inflicting vocals. There is also just enough variety and punch to keep more than interested. This is good shit!

THE OXY MORONS - Self Titled

Review by MOP
The Oxy-Morons are a new Melbourne based punk/thrash band with at least one ex-Meanie (D.D. on guitar), and you can see this influence on the band. This is a fast paced demo and easy to listen to, with all the instruments coming through clearly. Fun would be an objective in this band, with song titles such as Beach Party in Bosnia and Anzac on Prozac. If you like your music fun and fast you'll probably get into this.

DERN RUTLIDGE - Self Titled

Review by Penny
Dern Rutlidge are somewhat of a Melbourne super-group, with ex-Christbaiters Jason on guitar and Craig on guitar/vocals, Blood Dusters' bass man Jason P.C. on, you guessed it, bass, and Callan from Drool pounding the skins. This is a diverse demo, with a different vibe on each of the three songs. The opener California is a straight up catchy number with punkish overtones, whereas Sky Blue is laid back, mellow, and the perfect background for tokin' on the old green stuff. While there's a bit of a Christbaitish sound floating around here, I guess that's to be expected as Dern Rutlidge features the driving force behind Christbait. Fans of 'Super Cones and Stoner Rock ignite, er, unite!
