Material Buying Scheme |

As the Bookbinding trade will only sell in bulk quantities, the Guild purchases and supplies small quantities of material to members for there own consumption. The following list is just a sample of the materials availalbe to members. 1. PAPER: A. Bugra Paper laid pattern, sheets 840 x 850 mm, 130 gsm, 15 colours available. B. Wax Paper sheets 760 x 1020 mm. Many uses, when gluing stops moisture migration. C. Tissue Paper. • Heatset Laminating Tissue 1040 mm wide. • A neutral pH tissue of 8.5 gms, long quality fibres coated on one side with archivally approved pure acrylic adhesive. Excellent for localised or for page repairs, easily done with a tacking or domestic iron, is readily removed with mineral spirits. • Wrapping Tissue sheets 660 x 430 mm. • Japanese acid free repair tissues • (i) L tissue (light) sheets • (i) Tosa Washi tissue (medium) sheets 630 x 940 mm. • (iii) Kosu Shi tissue (heavy) sheets 640 x 980 mm. • (iv) White A/F tissue sheets 259 x 383 x 0.001 mm. • (v) Tosa Shoji tissue (heavy) White. Sheets 634 x 870 mm • (vi) Okamoto tissue (medium) White. Sheets 632 x 670 mm • (vii) Shoji tissue (med. heavy) White. Sheets 634 x 870 mm • (viii) Document Repair Tape Tissue • A very strong acid free tissue coated with acid free adhesive. To use, remove backing paper and press over torn area. Burnish with bone folder through a sheet of paper. 25mm wide. • D. Archival Text Paper • (i) 85 gsm Wove 900x640 mm. • (ii) 85 gsm Wove 900x1280 mm. • (iii) 118 gsm Wove White (Bridgewater Smooth) 960x640 mm. • E. Reemay (Random Spunbonded Polyester) 648 mm wide. • The random weave prevents pulling or stretching in any direction. Ideal for immersion associated with repairs as weave permits instant drainage and assists in blotting since nothing will stick to its surface, can be washed when dirty. • F. Mylar sheets .004" thick. Useful for wet repairs and gluing. 1016mm wide • G. Blotting Paper sheets 570 x 445 mm. • H. Teton Paper • (i) Teton Text Warm white 118gsm. Sheets 673 x 1016 mm • (ii) Teton Cover warm white 216gsm. Sheets 673 x 1016 mm • I. Suedlux Paper with a suede finish on one side suitable for lining boxes, slip cases, board in-fills for half bindings. 1150 mm. wide Available in various colours • J. Tyvek Fibre - Spunbonded Olefin. Tough durable Material of high density polyethylene fibres. So strong it cannot be torn. May be used for spine linings, underbacking and reinforcing. P.T.B.A. • (i) 54gsm, 914x650 mm • (ii) 75gsm, 910x650 mm • (iii) 105gsm, 914x650 mm 2. CLOTH • A.(i) Brella Bookcloth one metre wide 10 colours. • (ii) WW Light Similar to Brella, only lighter, 1280 mm wide • B. Oxford Library Buckram 1050 mm. wide 20 colours. C. Calico for spine linings. • (i) BC 2- 1000 mm. wide, light weight. • (ii) BC 95 - 815 mm. wide. medium weight. • D. Mull No 8 1150 mm. wide for spine linings. E. Head bands ready made in various single and two colour combinations. F. Tape • (i)13 mm (0.5inch) x the metre. Cotton. • (ii) 19 mm (0.75inch) • (iii) 25 mm (1inch) • (iv) 10 mm (7/16inch) fibre (Ramieband) • (v) 10 mm (7/16inch) 20 metre hank fibre. (Ramieband) • G. Crash Canvas 1000mm wide H. Law Canvas 1000 mm wide slightly heaver than Crash Canvas and about the colour of milk chocolate. I. Cialux 1400 mm wide paper backed fine cotton/linen cloth in burgundy, red, blue, black, green. J. Rayon Braid 2 mm (Book Mark) most common colours 3. LEATHER • A. Kangaroo skin vegetable tanned, readily dyed, lst & 2nd grade skins available in 10 colours. Average skin size between 0.4 to 0.7 sq. metres each. B. Chevon (goat) skin vegetable tanned, matt finish, blocks well, 1st grade skins. Average 0.4 to 6.5 sq. metres each. C. Plain Calf. 4. GLUES • A. P.V.A. (Polyvinyl Acetate Resins) 1 & 2 litre containers. Soluble in water, adheres to both porous and non-porous materials. Suitable for bonding textiles and paper. Semi clear when dry. Compatible with C.M.C. or flour/starch paste. Acid free. • B. C.M.C. (CarboxyMethylCellulose) pH-Neutral adhesive. For sizing paper and as paper adhesive. Compatible with flour/starch paste and PVA. Can be used as a marbling size. • C. Hot Glue • (a) Protein Glue • Glue pot or heating in double container necessary. • (i) 5 kg. pack • (ii) 2.5 kg. pack • (iii) 1.25 kg. pack • (b) Non Warp • Glue mainly used to laminate boards. • (i) 5 kg. pack • (ii) 2.5 kg. pack • (iii) 1.25 kg. pack • D. Klucel G (Hydroxypropyl Cellulose) Soluble in water, alcohol, acetone, IMS. Used as paper adhesive. A 2% solution has been used as a consolidant for red rot leathers. Can darken leather. 5. BOARD • Box Board 1020 x 760mm. softer than Mill Board, neutral pH. • (i) 2.0 mm thick. • (ii) 2.5 mm. • (ii) 3.0 mm. 6. MISCELLANEOUS • A. Knives Black handle Cobblers type. B. Brushes • (i) 25 mm. (1inch) round copper ferrule for Paste/PVA. • (ii) 38 mm. (1.5inch). • (iii) 45 mm. (2inch). • C. Gold Foil 23 carat foil 30 mm. wide, Minimun order 1 metre. D. Gold Leaf 23.5 carat double gold leaf, books of 25 sheets. approx 85 x 85 mm. E. Gold Silver and Black Foil. Commercial Quality Foil. • (i) 40 mm wide. • (ii) 150 mm wide. • F.
