ACOSS is the national peak council of the community welfare sector in Australia - the principal voice of low income and disadvantaged people in social and economic policy matters. The ACOSS membership network links 11 000 community organisations around Australia, by bringing together the eight state and territory Councils of Social Service which represents thousands of front-line agencies, national peak organisations of both consumer and service providers, all national religious and secular welfare agencies such as the Salvation Army, St Vincent de Paul; low income consumer groups such as the Association of Civilian Widows and the Australian Psychiatric Coalition.
