THE BODY SHOP - A SNAPSHOT OF SOCIAL RESEARCH
By 2011, more than one in five Australians will be aged over 65. What will
our ageing society be like? What does the experience of ageing mean? As part
of The Body Shop's involvement with the International Year of Older Persons,
we wanted to explore ageing through the eyes of young people. We asked year
11 and 12 photography students across Australia to submit entries to a
national photographic competition with the theme:
"In my life ageing means to me"
The Body Shop staff voted the winning entry to be "Lifešs a blast at any
age" by Starsha Henneberry of Trinity Catholic College Lismore, NSW.
Starsha photographed her grandmother, May Duncan, at her 80th birthday party
in Booker Bay with her sisters Margery Seaman, Jessie Morris, and Doris
Curry.
"I canšt remember what was so funny, but my nanna and her sisters
couldnšt stop laughing...I wish to remember her in this way being happy and
carefree," writes Starsha.
Starsha's grandmother has a positive outlook on
life and writes "although I am partially blind, I still consider life a
blast and precious at 80," adding
she is very proud of her grandaughter! Scroll down to see the winning photograph.
