Self acceptance and wisdom emerged as strong themes for this group. References to the negative physical aspects of ageing were made in accepting comments that weighed this up with the gains in relationships and personal growth. This was the age group to make comments about ageing from a position of personal experience. Freedom emerges as a theme for the first time since the late teens, usually in the context of freedom from the hectic pace of work and family responsibilities. The importance and value of family relationships rated more highly as a theme than individual freedom.
