THE BODY SHOP - A SNAPSHOT OF SOCIAL RESEARCH
UNDER 16
"This group frequently viewed ageing as a process of physical change with
references
to sagging bodies, greying hair, wrinkles - these attributes were seldom
commented
on in a positive way. In almost all cases physical change was mentioned in
visual
terms, ie. body appearance and looks. For others the ageing process equated
to physical development of their bodies and minds - usually in a positive
way. There were also strong references about ageing bringing wisdom and
freedom. Freedom was usually referred to in terms of becoming 'legal' and
experiencing control over their own lives.
"Being able to make changes and make more decisions about what happens in the
world eg voting."
