"Redcar" is my rally competition car that has also seen some road racing action. In addition to club events, I have competed in 3 "significant" events that are listed here. Peter Brice and I are returning to the Lactos Rally in Tasmania in 1999.
This is my story of of Redcar, at some point I hope to include Daren's La Carrera stories.
I bought this car from Daren Stone, then of San Jose. I found Redcar through the british-cars mailing list - Daren was another member of that list and advertised redcar there.
It took a about 2 years to finally buy Redcar but in Dec 95 I picked up redcar on a trip to San Francisco and shipped her back with assorted other spridgets, TerriAnn Wakeman's MGBGT and various new and 2nd hand parts.
Daren ran Redcar in the La Carrera road race in Mexico 5 times (89-92, 94) and had evolved the car over a period of about 10 years.
I recently continued Redcar's rally tradition by competing in the 3 Peaks Rallye here in Victoria. Peter Brice was my navigator/co-driver and lets just say that our novice status pretty much describes how we went... The navigation experience will stand us in good stead if we do the event again!! The photo above was taken at Mt Buffalo during the 3 Peaks rallye.
Update: Redcar, Peter Brice and I finished 2nd in class at the Lactos Heritage Rally in Tasmania over 13-15 Feb 1998. This was a bitumen "special stage rally" not a navigation rally.
I finished 1st and 3rd in class at the recent Healey International Commemorative Race to be top sprite overall, ahead of the majority of big healeys!
This is a summary of Redcar's current configuration:
